::  A few words from past students and workshop participants  ::

on songwriting

Nobody can or will ever be taught how to write anything.  That said,
there will always be a few first rate teachers with experience and love
and inspiration and generosity and nerve enough to lead the rest of us
curious minds stumbling inward to that faithful and indefinable place from
which all writing begins – Rosemary Phelan is one of those few.
Jon Brooks, multiple award-winning Songwriter and Folk Singer

Rosemary Phelan's  rightLEFT|:|write  songwriting series breathes.  It's as beautiful and moving as her songs.  She offers her excellent ideas about creativity with kindness and generosity.  She challenges the participants, in a subtle and caring way, to dig deep to find that place inside them that is unique and inspired.  There's always a feeling of joy when a person experiences genuine creativity - when they find and use their own voice.  The elation at the workshop was clear and present and palpable.  Like the participants, I was smitten with Rosemary and did not want the songwriting series to end.
Katherine Wheatley, Singer, Songwriter, Music Educator

on singing

Rosemary has a unique gift in her ability to explain the concepts she teaches in concrete ways that I could internalize and understand. I felt very comfortable with her. I knew that she’d had a profound impact when I heard my singing voice recorded and didn’t hate it anymore!
   Bev Bernbaum, Contra Dance Caller

Rosemary's vocal workshop helped me to find my true voice;  to un-learn my way back to the natural voice of the child within me; to sing fearlessly, free of stress or damage.
Bryan Williston, Singer, Songwriter

Rosemary’s vocal workshop was warm and inviting. Friendly and encouraging, she succeeds in sharing her knowledge and experience, promoting new awareness and inspiring further exploration, even in a group workshop setting. I was able to reflect not only on who I am and what I do, but also on who I am and what I do in the context of my peers, my community, and the world.
Shawna Caspi, Singer, Songwriter

on music at the bedside:

With great sensitivity and insight, Rosemary showed each of us how we can use our musical gifts to provide comfort and healing even in life's final moments. A workshop of immeasurable value.
Lynn Harrison, Singer, Songwriter, Writer

I would like to express our gratitude to you… your presentation on Caregiving Through Music was excellent, and very well received… both moving and inspirational…
PAT DAINES, Chair, Palliative Care Education Committee,
Sunnybrook and Women's College Hospital

...fascinating workshop... Rosemary’s beautiful voice is second only to her wise and compassionate message...
Abby Zotz
, Singer, Songwriter

I believe each one of us needs to experience and claim our unique voice. This is especially important if we want to express ourselves (and serve others) through singing or public speaking. For some that’s easy and natural; for others it takes committed effort over time. Either way, the goal is so very worthwhile, and every small gain brings a deep sense of fulfillment and joy. Once we physically and inwardly connect with this “core”, we're well equipped to discover and use the full range of our gifts, and to fend off the self-doubt that can undermine us as artists and as humans. Herein lies the power to move hearts and make a real difference
in people’s lives.
